The story behind the lens...

Lake Kivu Fishermen can be heard singing while they paddle out for a night of fishing on the largest Lake in Rwanda. They paddle out on traditional three hulled boats where they attach lanterns to help attract the fish to the boats. The fisherman catch fish like the introduced Isambaza (Sardine) and Nile Tilapia, selling their catch at local markets first thing in the morning after a long night fishing on the lake. The fishing industry is vital to the local economy, supporting a large number of people in both Rwanda and the DRC.
